ABOUT HAVEN HOUSE

SERVICES

Communicare’s Haven House is a 48 bed, coed,  residential alcohol and drug treatment facility that specializes in the treatment of co-occurring disorders.  With a clear understanding of the disease model of addiction, Communicare treats addiction by providing holistic and evidenced based treatment models.  The use of yoga, meditation, nature, art, and music is common to help individuals heal and introduce new ways to accept life’s challenges.

Although the Haven House is not a Twelve Steps based treatment facility, we do believe in the power of the Twelve Step program.  We offer twelve step meetings twice a day for all clients.  Because some individuals do not want to follow the path of the 12 steps, we also provide SMART Recovery groups and we have information on Celebrate Recovery and the meetings within the area.

Communicare uses a person centered approach in order to treat each client individually, tailoring their treatment for their current wants and needs.

Communicare offers Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT) for clients within the residential treatment facility for Opioid Use Disorder, Alcohol Use Disorder, and Nicotine Use Disorder.  After completion of residential treatment, the client will be followed by our board certified addictionologist on an outpatient basis.

When coming into Communicare’s Haven House, the client will be assessed for withdrawal symptoms. By using evidenced based assessments, the residential treatment staff will be able to modify medications to minimize withdrawal symptoms to the best of our ability.

Communicare offers  Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP) in multiple counties for individuals ages 16 and up.  Communicare’s IOP program is based on evidenced based treatment models.  IOP is comprised of a 3 hour group (that include psychoeducation and group processing), 3 days a week, for 12 weeks.  In addition to the groups, IOP is comprised of weekly individual therapy and at least 2 family sessions to help bridge the pain addiction has caused the family.  Our IOP is offered at various times throughout the weekday to accommodate individuals’ work and home schedule.

Recovery Support Services are provided by peer support specialists that have common life experiences as the client.  The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) shows that peer support services reduce the cost of treatment and helps an individual feel as though they belong in the recovery community.

Through evidenced based models our peer support specialists will follow a client for a minimum of one year, providing peer support services both through group processing and individual processing.

Common activities provided by peer support specialists include:

  • Help with writing a resume
  • Discussing cravings
  • Educating about the 12 steps and discussing these steps
  • Providing leads for jobs within the community
  • Help with completion of paperwork for state and/or federal assistance, i.e. Medicaid, food stamps, HUD housing applications, etc.
  • Discharge planning from residential treatment and additional treatment referrals

Communicare offers individual and group therapy at all 6 county offices for individuals with co-occurring disorders.  Individuals will be able to receive individual counseling and recovery support services within a county office of their choosing, based on their wants and needs.

Should an individual be placed on MAT on an outpatient basis, the individual will have to return to the Haven House for follow up appointments with the addictionologist, however all other services can be in the county office of their choice.

A project, Connect4Success, created through a SAMHSA grant,  has provided Communicare the ability to start a female sober living house for ages 18-25.

Communicare is the community provider of naloxone.  The Mississippi Department of Mental Health has tasked Communicare with making sure that naloxone is given out into the community to whomever may need it.

In addition to providing Naloxone, Communicare will provide a Naloxone training to all individuals and/or organizations on the appropriate use of Naloxone.

Naloxone is a life saving drug that can reverse an overdose of opioids, saving the person’s life.

We accept medicaid and most major insurances.  For those without insurance we offer a sliding scale fee. We believe that everyone deserves high quality treatment at an affordable cost.

Communicare offers substance abuse prevention services throughout the 6 county catchment area.  These services are offered to the community at large as well as the local schools and colleges. Within the school system, our prevention specialists go into classrooms and teach evidence based programs to help educate adolescents about the harms of drug use.

Not only does our prevention program provide education to the communities, schools, and colleges we have been able to provide lock boxes where prescription drugs can be locked away to help limit access to addictive substances within the home.  Also through grant funding, Communicare has partnered with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, Oxford Policy Department, Senatobia Police Department, and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office to place drop boxes inside these police departments where individuals can safely dispose of medication no longer used.

The Conversation Starts At Home Campaign has been created to make sure parents are aware of the harms of drug use.  By educating parents our hopes are that families will start discussing the harms of drug use at home more often. In addition to discussing the harms, we also strive to make sure families know how to access help for their child, loved one, or themselves, should they need it.
