History of the Haven House

Communicare’s Haven House opened on July 1, 1978 and received its first resident on August 1, 1978. The Haven House was the first treatment center of its kind in the area. Originally located in in rural Lafayette County in a repurposed church building, the Haven House had an original capacity to serve up to 15 males at one time. We offered treatment ranging from 30 to 90 days. At its one year anniversary The Haven House served 94 people. In 2001 The Haven House opened its doors to a state of the art, 48 bed facility located behind the main office of Communicare off Hwy 7. With the opening of this new facility, The Haven House became able to serve both males and females suffering from the disease of addition. With a staff that is composed of both medical staff and Master’s level therapist, The Haven House is able to provide treatment for those clients suffering from both substance abuse disorders and mental health disorders. From the humble beginnings in rural Lafayette County to treating 300 or more alcoholics and addicts a year, The Haven House continues to grow to better help the suffering.
